KING CITY, Calif. — The Monterey County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who was killed in a shooting early Sunday morning in King City.
The victim was identified as 42-year-old
of King City, according to the Coroner’s Office.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and officers with the King City Police Department responded shortly after midnight to reports of gunfire near North Second Street and Lynn Street, an area near the Hartnell College King City Education Center and north of Broadway.
When officers arrived, they found a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the response of emergency personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation as a homicide. Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting and identify the person responsible.
Authorities are asking residents and businesses in the area to review any available surveillance footage that could assist investigators. Investigators are also seeking doorbell-camera recordings that may have captured activity around the time of the shooting.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released additional information about a possible suspect or motive.
